SORRY, WAS AT UNIVERSITY THIS MORNING WHICH IS WHY THE WRITE UP TOOK SO LONG!

What another epic weekend!

With the weather being undependable and memories of last year’s snow surfacing, we weren’t sure of what this weekend would be. 10 players had gone down the night before for a relaxed evening at Mash’s house, with the other 15 following on the next morning. Due to the weather being so unpredictable, games were to start at 11 so the pitches had to unfreeze (if they ever had frozen)

Anyway, our first game was against old friends HU? 1. We had played HU? the week before and knew it would be a tough game. We weren’t disappointed. The wind was blowing straight down the pitch and it had the potential to turn into a point by point battle. Winning the toss and choosing to take the upwind position, we came out hard on defence. Throwing down our arrowhead zone, HU? could not move it through our ranks. Constantly swinging it until a mistake was made, we capitalised on every downwind point we could. However, with the wind behind them, HU? were a devastatingly good team, ripping through our man defence. It was about 5-4 when KTT got the break, managing to score the vital upwind point. Needing to consolidate the lead, we pushed hard on D and HU? didn’t really have a reply. Fair play to them for playing so hard as they only had 8 players and we had 12. We didn’t back down for the rest of the game and won 10-5, keeping our seeding of 8th.

Second game was against the eventual winners Sublime 1. It was on the same pitch that we had played HU? and even though the wind had dropped, there was still a potential zone. However, sublime showed why they are such a good team, managing to move it wherever they wanted, whether it was into the wind or not! Final score was 13-4 to sublime, but we got some epically good points against and I nearly broke my toe!

We were now seeded 8th and needed to hold our seed in a crossover against a relatively unknown side, Bloody Mary’s. The seconds had played them earlier and had given us the relatively good advice, ‘They use two players, the rest are just for show’. These words have never been more true as a side with 6 people gave us quite a show. With one player from fire and another over from the UPA in America, these guys were seemingly unstoppable! We tried out many different zones and tactics to stop them hucking it to each other, eventually hitting upon the arrowhead. Final score was 13-8 and we had held 8th for the day.

The evening was a sober affair for some players, for others it was 3 pint challenge time! (Butters / Cleary). Games didn’t start again till 11 o’clock the next morning so the first team relaxed quite a bit.

First game on the Sunday was against very old rivals, Disc Doctors. They have always been a strong side and wanted 5th position more, especially as they had lost their seed by losing to Surrey. Although we tried zone (very little wind) and man (they are tall and fast), nothing really held up the offence of dD for too long. This is not to say we didn’t play well, there was some stunning movement for each of our points but dD deserved the win. Final score was 15-4 to dD and we were now fighting our way up into nationals
Next game was against Bloody Mary’s again and they had just recovered from a 7-1 thumping by Mohawks 2 to win 11-8. The reason? The American showed up! So we knew it was going to be a hard match again but this time the positive energy was far higher than the day before. Arrowhead was thrown on and some throws by the two people didn’t connect like they should have, giving us the opportunities we needed. Our O was clinical and we didn’t waste too many chances to finish the game off. Final score was 15-3 in our favour and we were still 8th!

The penultimate game of the day was against Sublime 2. They had just beaten HU? 1 so we knew it would be a tricky game. However, our arrowhead worked like a charm, forcing the handlers backwards until they made the stupid little mistake. Playing sensibly and not turning over, we swiftly hit the half at 8 without a score from sublime 2. Half of their first team had walked off by this point, not wanting to watch the utter devastation of their seconds! After the break, sublime slapped on their own zone which worked for a bit, but our earlier lead had really won us the game. Finishing the game at 11-4, KTT now had the chance to go to nationals again, for the third time this season.

If we hadn’t just given our all playing sublime, UCL hadn’t had a game off and some throws had connected, we would have won this game. UCL had fresh legs on us and our zone did very little against their offence. KTT saw this game as a fun chuckabout and some stuff that we would never have thrown actually managed to come off (Tull’s hammer). The utter madness of what we were pulling out really rattled UCL and we started to edge back into the game, hitting the half for them at 8-5. However, from there UCL pushed harder and we didn’t really have an answer as the tiredness crept into all parts of the body! Final score was 14-7 to UCL but left KTT in 7th, the highest we had ever finished at Outdoor Regionals

This weekend has added to an amazing season so far that has put KTT up there with the best teams. Finshing 5th at indoors, 7th at mixed and 7th at outdoors, it is the best we have ever done! Congratulations to all that have made this happen and long may it continue.

What a sublime weekend. I am still exhausted.

- Northern renditions of certain songs from Backstreet on the journey up.
- Jakes layout D in the HU? game, I think.
- Jakes layout crazy catch for a point after someone had dropped it. It was seriously insane.
- Tull's massive, huge hammer in the Sublime game.
- Playing Sublime.
- Tull's pull, yes THAT pull.
- Low release sidearm through Sublimes junk, thank you to K-Dawg for catching it.
- Crazy late stall count panic knife throw over their junk again, to Shake'n'Jake. Thank you for grabbing that awful throw.
- Huddles.
- Seeing you-know-who's crazy warm-up drill.
- Managing to squeeze 14 people into a tiny living room.
- The cacophony of snoring that ensued.
- Sleeping.
- Mr. & Mrs. Lamming's amazing soup and snack preparation.
- Sublime looking really sexy in their kit.
- Cleary making use of the knowledge found in chapter 4 of 'Ultimate: Techniques and Tactics'. He was catching quite a lot of points when I was on the sideline drinking soup.
- DJ's Sublime 2 Callahan, that was seriously awesome and I love you for it.
- Catching and throwing.
- Adriaaaaaan!
- Sublime, blah blah blah blah.
- TB's inspirational speeches - very scary eye contact that seemed to say all the words that were needed.
- Bloody Mary and their comeback against Mohawks 2 as soon as Rain Man turned up, ridiculous.
- Not being cold, at all!
- Hardly any wind. Last year was stupid.
- Look-up, look-down call, where K-Dawg illustrated how we void our bowels after we die.

Well done to the Captain for commanding a record breaking Kent Touch This team. The standard has been set for those of us who will still be here next year and I know those passionate enough will do their best to improve the KTT record.

It hurtsssss. Highlights:

- Listening to the same 3 glee songs over and over "These are my confessions....and it's now or never!"
- Hammer against Sublime.
- Layout D against Sublime.
- Two Sublime players telling me well played, outside of the usual shaking hands bit.
- Mash getting so angry when we were struggling against St. Marys.
- Not being served at Spoons, ALL I WANTED WAS FOOD!
- Happily perving over the hot girls at Spoons with Luke, Tb and Hooch.
- Layout against Sublime 2 after Mash decided an up the line pass should be 10 yards in front of me. Glasgow all over again!
- How much fun we had against UCL, despite what was at stake, and how we were essentially taking the piss and yet still came from 5-0 down to 7-5.
- Time you got a watch!
- Getting to slap Ken on the back lots.
- Skying Rainman. Oh wait. That never happened.
- Not 'That pull'.
- How well Jake played this weekend. Awesome stuff.
- Luke's throwing against St. Marys. Going crazy with the assists.
- Clark's obsession. I think we know what he would call his own perfume range.
- Getting to use Woody's in a match
That'll do for now!

Blimey Kent 1 got a higher spirit score than Kent 2!

This is most likely in part down to me swearing every time we turned the disc over, which I would like to sincerely apologise for... I have never known myself be so full of rage!

*Eagerly awaits Kent 2 write up, so I can share my personal highlights*

now that makes me happy, highest spirit in the top 10? nice to see that even when pushing competitively we can still keep spirit up. Well done chaps. And seconds..... tut tut. lets not make this the sign of things to come.

My Personal highlight of the weekend

Me and rain main both misreading two hucks and cursing at the same moment of realisation.

Beating the blonde fire man in the air and being complimented by him for it.

Jakes D on the pull.

Tulls continuation of his ability to lay out brilliantly. Nationals wasnt just a fluke!

FARTICLES

Telling lindsays young cousins to close their ears whenever mash opened his mouth, just in case.

The attempts at looking like a shitake mushroom.

It went off to the right, over the neighbouring pitch, hooked around, hung for about 5 seconds, before landing in the back corner, in which time our arrowhead had set up. True story. Ahem.

Tom spending the majority of the weekend on his knees (again no inuendo)
the nickname red russian and the fact that no one knows where it came from.
The beautifully set up surrey point

As Steph has set the standard, I'm just gonna go ahead and stick my highlights up here too now:

Two hours of cheesey music on the drive down
Vid getting the D on the HU? giant
Curry and Sean both D'ing perfect callaghan chances
Scoring the only point in the match against Bloody Mary's
Tom spending at least half the weekend on his knees
Vid selling a UAL player so well that the guy chased after a disc that was never thrown
The Drunken Huck game
"Cleary lives in Gay Town"
Beautiful flowing point against Surrey
The final point of the weekend, a great huck from Curry to Cleary for the score
The snore-off (apparently I did pretty well...)
Steph's early morning scream
"I'm going to formally bum you"
Tom finding my Norfolk accent hilarious on the way home
Vid's comment about booze and women to the Surrey player (and his obsession with Chicken!)

Probably more too, which I can't remember! Thanks for a great weekend KTT, can't wait to do it again! Smile
