Ultimate
Origins
Ultimate, or Ultimate Frisbee as it was originally called, is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK. Originating in 1960’s America, Ultimate combines the best features of more established sports; to create an energetic, fast-paced game, where players of all abilities can compete in regional, national and international tournaments. From it’s early incarnations as a recreational game played on the college campuses of America, Ultimate has developed it’s own unique style of play combining a high level of physical activity with it’s often admired Spirit of the Game.
How to play
The rules of Ultimate are simple, two teams of seven players attempt to catch the disc in the opponent’s endzone in order to score a point. The first team to reach the decided number of points is the winner. Unlike Football or Basketball players cannot run with the disc, instead players must throw the disc to each other in order to make ground and reach the endzone. Possession of the disc changes when it either touches the ground or the defending side makes an interception or catch of an attacking throw. Being a non-contact sport, fouls are called when players come in contact with each other.
Spirit of the Game
Something that sets Ultimate apart from other sports is it’s Spirit of the Game. This style of self refeering ensures that players both on and off the pitch gain a better understanding of the game as well providing them with a chance to call their own mistakes. Spirit is a great way for people to come together and learn about Ultimate and it’s something that Kent Touch This prides itself on having won various Spirit awards at many tournaments over the years.
